Introduction

Established in 2001, the Transit Home in Thankot is situated at Nagdhunga in the Kathmandu district, positioned in the South-Western part of Kathmandu. Serving as the sole point of entry and exit to and from Kathmandu, it plays a crucial role due to the city’s extensive public transport network connecting various rural and urban areas across Nepal. Being a major exit point, it witnesses the passage of various vehicles, including buses, trucks, and cars, enroute to different parts of the country and India’s borders. This strategic location makes it a hotspot for potential trafficking incidents, with girls often transported to border towns or other destinations before being trafficked to India and other countries. The Transit Home in Thankot has effectively intercepted many potential trafficking victims.
