ABOUT THE FOUNDER
ANURADHA KOIRALA
In the narrow streets of Kathmandu, where countless dreams are often silenced by hardship, one woman chose to listen—to the unheard cries, the hidden suffering, and the voices lost in the shadows of society. That woman was Anuradha Koirala, a teacher by profession but a mother to the forgotten daughters of Nepal.
Her journey began with a painful truth—too many women and children were falling victim to the cruel chains of human trafficking and exploitation. She could not turn away. With nothing but an unshakable will and an endless heart, she started Maiti Nepal in 1993, opening a small shelter for survivors who had nowhere else to go. She welcomed them, fed them, and held their hands as they reclaimed their stolen dignity.
But the battle was not easy. She faced threats, opposition, and heart-wrenching stories of innocent girls being deceived, sold, and abused. Each rescue, each tearful reunion, and each scarred soul fueled her determination. The mission of Maiti Nepal was no longer just about saving lives—it became about rebuilding them.
Over the years, thousands have found hope under Maiti Nepal’s roof. Women who were once victims now stand as warriors, fighting for those still trapped in the dark. And at the heart of it all stands Anuradha Koirala, a mother to the broken, a shield for the vulnerable, and a relentless force against injustice.
